From the outer edges of the universe to the core of the atom to the inner workings of the human heart, audiences will explore science like never before in this digital visualization theatre we call the North Star Dome

The North Star Dome

Edmonton was home to Canada’s first public planetarium, the Queen Elizabeth Planetarium which opened in 1960. It delighted audiences until it was replaced in 1984 by the stunning Margaret Zeidler Star Theatre in the Edmonton Space Sciences Centre. In its day, it was state of the art.

Edmonton’s immersive full dome experience!

To re-establish Edmonton as a world leader in this area, the domed theatre will be transformed into a 21st-century digital visualization theatre, connecting scientific research with computer visualization to help us understand how the universe works.

The entire theatre will bring cutting-edge technology into a space worthy of the visualization content that will be the theatre’s signature experience and leave a lasting impression on all of its guests.  The North Star Dome will be a unique, world-leading facility with the potential to become a content source for planetariums around the world.
